The Antenna is mounted at the 300ft level, and the repeater is putting out about 20 watts from the transmitter.
Originally the repeater was going to be placed at W(/)ANT's qth atop a 60 ft flagpole for just local coverage around Ankeny and North Des Moines. However Antenna restrictions made that almost impossible. So permission was gained from the American Tower Incorporation of Boston, Ma to place the repeater on the TV towers.
They agreed and the rest is history now Features of the 31/71 repeater.
1. The coverage of this machine seems to be a very wide area coverage machine sometimes 50-100 miles for mobiles as well as bases!
2. We also are using an ECHO LINK server connected remotely to our repeater, which connects us to the worlds most popular ham radio repeaters and stations. Echo Link is software, which allows Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The program allows worldwide connections to repeaters everywhere.
3. A brand new repeater in the area gives us a brand new chance to establish a lot of new friendships.
4. WORKING CLOSELY with the National Weather service. We have developed a way to stream the radios audio over the Internet and allow hams around the state to listen to the repeater like a short wave listener...
